Excellence in Incentive Travel: North America
USMotivation

“Circle of Excellence Winner’s Retreat”
Program Overview
When a major financial and insurance services company wanted to recognize and thank their top performers for exceeding sales goals, USMotivation delivered a program that exceeded the client’s expectations. Approximately 180 participants journeyed to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA for a musical –infused event comprised of relaxation, networking and adventures around the local area. Music was chosen for the theme because of the way it brings together people of various ages, cultures and interests.
Effectiveness and Results
Only in its second year, qualifying for the incentive trip is very much seen as a mark of distinction. The objectives of the program were to raise net income and reward sales associates for their hard work and the program is strong proof that incentive travel programs produce results. The company realized a 25% increase in incremental net income over the prior year and, more importantly, the net income was over 60x the total investment in the incentive program. Because the company places a high emphasis on providing their employees with respect and appreciation of their efforts, much care was taken to ensure winners felt respected, appreciated and valued during the trip.
The Creative Approach
Desert, cowboys and golf are the traditional themes planners use for incentive programs in Arizona. US Motivation realized that the program needed a different and unique theme to engage the broad demographics of the winners. After much brainstorming and planning, the team decided on using the universal language of music for the theme.
The theme began with the program’s keynote speaker, Mike Rayburn, an expert on personal development and human potential. Mike brought his message of purpose, possibility and peak performance to life through his guitar playing and comedy. On the final night of the program, the group attended a special recognition event at the Musical Instrument Museum. Delegates wandered the exhibit halls before heading outside to a sunset-filled courtyard where a talented band of electric violinists mesmerized the eager crowd. Upon return to the hotel, the program participants were surprised with handmade Mango Beats music speaker, specially commissioned for the group.
Program Execution
In addition to recognizing achievements, it was important to the client to create an environment where participants could network and build lasting relationships. The client asked for a hospitality area where the group could congregate and mingle but due to the size of the group, this proved to be a challenge. USMotivation worked with the hotel to create a special space where participants could congregate and socialize that worked within the client’s budget
Because the event took place during the height of the Major League Baseball spring training season in Arizona, which attracts many tourists, finding dining space for a large group was a challenge. In partnership with the DMC, USMotivation was able to execute a special dine-around event where participants experienced the cuisine of some of the area’s finest restaurants.
